Severance

February 26 - April 3, 2021

St. Louis, MO — Monaco is pleased to present Severance, a solo exhibition of work by Monaco artist Vaughn Davis Jr.  The exhibition opens February 26, 2021 and will run through April 3, 2021.

Vaughn Davis Jr. creates art with torn canvases, from wall to floor, that sever the state of traditional painting. Imbuing surfaces with a slew of paint, Davis creates fields of expression which are subsequently deconstructed. Altering picture planes into “objects of madness,” Davis’ works are defiant forms of resilience. A process of contradiction threads through the unraveled canvases. As the work grapples with the state of its own becoming, it abstractly mirrors the conditions of our time.

Vaughn Davis Jr. received his BFA with Departmental Honors in Sculpture from Webster University in St. Louis.  He has exhibited work at Gazebo Gallery, Kent, OH; and The Luminary, St. Louis, MO; among others.  Additionally, he mounted solo exhibitions at Philip Slein Gallery and at the Center for Creative Arts, both located in St. Louis.  He has been interviewed for Alive.com, crwnmagazine.com  and St. Louis Public Radio.
