Howard Krohn

krohn detail

Howard Krohn has a playful and experimental approach to abstract painting.  His process is a dance and wrestling match between increasingly varied techniques and strategies employed to push paint’s expressive potential.  Paintings navigate opposing approaches to mark-making: the fast, exuberant and automatic with the slow, reflective and pre-meditated. Abstraction is celebrated as an entropic variable that complicates planning and desire; successful paintings find harmony in the balance.

Howard Krohn received his MFA in Visual Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and his BA in art from Grinnell College.  His work has been included in exhibitions across the Midwest and in New York.  In addition to his solo practice he has a long-standing collaborative project, bigweirdo, with artist Amanda Bowles
