EXHIBITION STATEMENT

RUN RUN RUN is the debut solo exhibition of new work by Betsy Zeitler-Ellison. In Ellison’s multimedia drawings and paintings, rabbits and dogs, respectively the ultimate prey and pet animals, signify states of precarity and dependency. These animals exist in constant motion, occupying and decorating otherwise austere halls of worship. Ellison’s diagrammatic compositions surge to both imprison and protect their occupants, who may or may not be interested in escape. Following the artist’s visual explorations of intricate, church-like interiors, RUN RUN RUN splinters recursive symbols of dogs, rabbits, girls, cathedral halls, and illuminated manuscripts into a dreamlike examination of vulnerability

She is currently a remote artist in residence at AIR, the Internet Archive’s Artist in Residency program. She was also former acting media director of Chicago-based small press 2dcloud, and the inaugural Spring 2022 Sam Fox Media Artist in Residence.
